Job match score

A match number without evidence is marketing. MyCareerAtlas scores roles against Career Memory and shows the WHY — including skills the JD asks for that you have not confirmed yet.

Unexplained scores are forbidden

“You’re an 87% match” with no dimensions is a growth hack. You cannot decide from it. You cannot defend it to yourself when the JD wanted five years of a skill you used once. MyCareerAtlas product rules say unexplained AI scores are not allowed. Recommended jobs include dimension scores and a WHY.

The point is a decision: pursue, save, or skip — not a black-box percentage that hides a weak fit so a bot can apply anyway.

How a score is built

Skills and tracks you confirmed in Career Memory are compared to the job. Requirement phrases in the JD are checked against those skills. Gaps are listed from that comparison, not from a generic keyword cloud scraped off the internet.

Other dimensions (experience, track alignment) sit next to skills so one strong keyword hit cannot wash out a role you do not actually want. Remote, salary, and seniority signals are normalized from the posting when the board provides them, or inferred from location and JD text when it does not.

Applied and rejected roles are excluded from Recommended. Stale catalog jobs (not seen in 14 days) are excluded too. The feed is meant to be short enough to read.

What you can do with a match

  • Save — keep it in Saved and feed a high-confidence signal
  • Not interested — drop it from Recommended
  • Already applied — keep the pipeline honest
  • Open the posting — extension detect, score, and prefill on supported ATS hosts

None of those actions silently rewrite memory. Signals can propose a new track. You confirm.

In-tab vs Recommended

On LinkedIn or an ATS page, the side panel analyzes strengths and gaps against Career Memory so you do not paste the JD into a chat. Catalog Recommended uses the full match endpoint with dimension scores. They are two explain paths on the same memory. If they ever feel different, trust the ticket and the confirmed skills — not a screenshot of a number.

Scores that compound

Confirmed applies, saves, and skips can surface career signals. Proposed tracks still need your confirm. Tomorrow’s daily matches use the same Career Memory, not a forgotten chat. That is the difference between a fit widget and a Career OS.

Frequently asked questions

What is a job match score in MyCareerAtlas?
A 0–1 fit across dimensions such as skills, track, and experience — always with a WHY. Unexplained AI scores are not used.
Where do missing skills come from?
Requirement phrases in the job description are compared to skills in your Career Memory. Gaps are listed so you can decide, not so a bot can spray-apply.
Does the Chrome extension use the same WHY?
The side panel analyzes strengths and gaps against Career Memory while you browse. Catalog Recommended uses the full match endpoint. Both are evidence-based; they are not a mysterious single number.
Can I save or reject from the score?
Yes. Save, reject, or mark already applied. Rejected roles leave Recommended. Confirmed behavior can propose new tracks — you still confirm before memory changes.
Is a high score a reason to apply?
It is a reason to look. Compensation, team, location, and whether you want the work still sit with you. The score is evidence, not a command.
