Interview Readiness Score

Rate five interview dimensions honestly and get an instant, level-aware estimate — weighted the same way MyCareerAtlas weights real practice evidence for your target level, from SDE 1 through Principal Engineer. Free, instant, no signup.

Data structures & algorithms

Could you solve a medium pattern-based problem (two pointers, sliding window, trees) in ~25 minutes, unaided?

System design

Could you structure a 40-minute design answer — clarify, estimate, design, deep dive, trade-offs — without freezing?

Problem-solving under pressure

When stuck, do you have a repeatable way to get unstuck, or do you go quiet?

Technical depth (your own work, in detail)

Could you defend a real design decision from your own recent work under pointed follow-up questions?

Communication & structuring an answer

Do you narrate your reasoning and trade-offs out loud, unprompted, while you work?

How it works

Pick your target level and rate five dimensions — DSA, system design, problem-solving under pressure, technical depth, and communication — from "not yet" to "strong." The tool combines your ratings with that level's actual weighting (the same readinessWeights data the authenticated product uses) entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is sent to a server.

Why a level-aware score, not one generic number

A generic "interview readiness" score treats DSA and system design as equally important for everyone, which is wrong in a way that actively misleads. DSA carries roughly 40% of the weight at SDE 1 and drops to single digits by Staff Engineer, where system design and technical depth take over. Rating yourself identically on both dimensions produces a meaningfully different overall score depending on which level you pick — that is the mechanism working as intended, not a quirk.

What this tool cannot tell you

A self-rating is only as accurate as your own calibration, and candidates are notoriously bad at self-assessing interview readiness in both directions — some underrate genuine strength, more commonly some overrate genuine gaps that only surface under real interview pressure. Treat the number here as a rough starting point for prioritization, not a prediction. For a score built from actual evidence — timed attempts, real code execution, AI-scored rubric evaluations — see how interview prep by level works once you are practicing for real.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the readiness score inside the product?
It uses the same weighting formula and the same level data, but a different input: this tool asks you to self-rate five dimensions in about a minute, while the product's real readiness score is built entirely from evidence — actual timed attempts, real code execution results, and AI-scored rubric evaluations. Self-ratings are useful for a quick gut check; evidence-based scoring is what you'd want to actually trust before an interview.
Why does the same self-rating produce a different score at different levels?
Because the five dimensions are weighted differently by level, and that is the entire point of organizing prep by level in the first place. The identical DSA rating contributes far more to the overall score at SDE 1 (where DSA is roughly 40% of the weight) than at Staff Engineer (where it drops to single digits and system design and technical depth dominate instead).
What should I do with my two focus areas?
They are ranked by leverage — level weight times how much room you rated yourself to grow — not just by your lowest rating. A dimension you rated low but that barely matters at your target level is not where your prep time is best spent; the tool is deliberately built to surface the dimension where more prep actually moves your overall number the most.
